Study on the Sports Business Ecosystem in Finland

The Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture has commissioned 4FRONT a comprehensive study on the sports business ecosystem in Finland. The assignment aims to build a coherent, up-to-date understanding of the scope, structure and development of sports-related business activity, and its role within Finnish society and the national sports system.

The sports sector is undergoing rapid change driven by shifts in consumer behaviour, digitalisation, technological innovation, new service models and broader societal transitions. At the same time, sports-related business plays an increasingly important role in promoting physical activity and wellbeing, creating economic value, as well as contributing to sustainable growth and international business opportunities. Despite this growing importance, the overall picture of sports-related business in Finland has remained fragmented.

The study will provide a systematic overview of the content, size and transformation of the sports business ecosystem, including companies, public actors and third sector organisations. It will strengthen the data base on sports-related business activites as well as support policy-making, business development, and cooperation between the private, public and third sector in the sports sector to promote the physical activity and wellbeing of the population.

Based on the analysis, the study will present conclusions and recommendations to promote the sustainable development and competitiveness of sports-related business in Finland.
