Intelligent Cities Challenge (ICC) is a major initiative by the European Commission to accelerate the green and digital transition of European cities by developing and adopting Local Green Deals (LGDs).
4FRONT supports the City of Pori in their ICC process in two specific topics: Carbon Neutral Industrial Ecosystems and Sustainable Tourism. The Local Green Deals are formal joint commitments between the City and the local industry with the aim to reduce carbon emissions through specific actions.
The collaboration between the City of Pori and 4FRONT started within the Digital Cities Challenge (DCC) initiative, which was a tailored programme by the European Commission to help 15 European cities develop and implement digital policies that can boost local economic growth. After the DCC process (2018-2019), the collaboration strengthened with the first phase of ICC where the focus was on supporting the green economy strategy and implementation process at the city level.
Both the DCC and ICC journey have been successful. In March 2025 City of Pori received an award for an LGD demonstrating exceptional scale of Industry engagement and in recognition of the city’s long and strong commitment to the ICC goals.
